The transition back to Muskoka for the summer is 'complete'. If 'complete' means living temporarily in a chaotic mess of boxes, containers, and stacks of our belongings while we clean, organize, and slowly leak the remains of our sanity into the mess. Coupled with the excitement of being back, catching up with friends, stepping straight into a weekend event, and staying on top of bookings, emails, the retreat, festival plans. Transition means no routine, which has left me longing for my practice, both meditation and physical. My demeanor has felt frazzled and grouchy so I made a point of getting onto my meditation cushion first thing this morning. And when the sun peaked through the clouds this afternoon, I quit my relentless battle with Crazy Domains and GoDaddy about the transfer of muskokaSUPyoga.com, grabbed my sparkly new BOGA Yoga Bamboo, my beautiful Shaw & Tenney paddle, and headed to the lake. I paddled across the bay to the protected shore, where the water was glassy, and the chill of the wind was caught by the trees before it could reach my skin. SUP, like yoga, can be incredibly therapeutic - it's easy to get lost in the breath, the rhythm of the movement, and nature. By the time I dropped my anchor, I was already feeling lighter (SUP-pun intended). I started to breathe and move, setting my eyes on the horizon, as I lifted and lengthened my hamstrings. Listening to the birds chirp, and the sound of the lake lapping at the edges of the board, everything about me starts to soften. As I take child's pose, resting my forehead on the board, I stay... and stay... and hear what my whole being is asking for. I lay on my belly, sun warming my back, and fall asleep, feeling more relaxed than I have in ages.
Out on my board, I leave the shore behind
Finally free from the grasps of my troubles
The sounds of the lake calms my busy mind
The breeze brings with it a new perspective
Nature speaks to me of simple things
And I am reminded that everything changes,
changes, and changes again...
